New update in January 2020!
Civil status registers are digitised from the original documents or from copies on microfilm. The digitised images are provided in bundles. The inventory lists the different municipalities, file types and inclusive dates of the files. In some cases, especially regarding smaller municipalities, it is too time-consuming to describe the files individually by type; therefore you find them under the general title “files”. Birth, marriage and death certificates are sorted by year. Ten-year tables are bundled by district and usually sorted alphabetically by municipality. Their descriptions can be found under “0 Arrondissement”.
The collection of digital images is not complete yet! Therefore, you still have to use the microfilms for your research (except province Walloon-Brabant). In the province/district list below you will find the number of registers already accessible and the last update. Registers digitised from original documents are given priority as they are not yet available in the reading rooms. Files dating until 1920 can be accessed.
In order to consult documents already available online, you need to create a user account. Click on “register” and enter your name, a user name, your e-mail address and a password. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail, in which you must click on the confirmation link to activate your user account.
